Civil Code

The Civil Code of the Russian Federation — «Гражданский кодекс Российской Федерации» — is the main source of legislation regulating private, as opposed to criminal and administrative, matters in Russia.

The code has four parts. The first part deals with the foundations of civil legislation (natural persons and legal entities, objects, ownership and other rights, obligations, agreements, agency). The second part deals with various types of obligations and contracts. The third part seeks to regulate matters of inheritance and international private law. The fourth part is devoted to intellectual property law.

The English translations of parts one, two and three of the Civil Code (warning: these versions are out-of-date) are available here.
